InternetLogic - Project and Risk Management

Ok so you don't want InternetLogic to develop your Internet project and you've hired another company. We would just say this however: all software development investments have significant risks attached. These risks may arise from - amongst other things:

  • Poor communications
  • Low quality of software
  • Time and therefore cost overruns
  • Inadequate configuration
  • Inadequate user instruction
  • Misunderstood objectives for the system requiring subsequent re-work
  • Insufficient systems analysis
  • Excessive time to market impacting revenue-generation
  • Contractual and litigation issues

As you can see there are a number of ways in which your system may end up costing you more than you may have bargained for.

Risk Insurance with Internet Logic

To help avoid such issues it is best to involve a project manager with specialist understanding of the software industry. This can be arranged on a part or full-time basis. It may be as little as one meeting a week whereby our experienced project manager liaises with your developers to address issues as and when they arise.

Removing Contractual Straitjackets

Software development contracts can be complex documents. Unless you have a specialised legal consultant you can find that the contract you signed doesn't guarantee the solution you actually need. A story will better illustrate the need for suitable, impartial project management.

Case Study - But NOT from InternetLogic

A young man, call him X, had a website-based money-making idea. He spoke to a few people about about it who all said it was an excellent prospect. X performed market analysis that convinced his bank to lend him a sizeable amount of money to get the project off the ground. It required database-driven website that was not overly complex . X hired a small development company to build the system for him.

After a couple of months X wasn't impressed with the progress on the project and even less impressed with the results. After unsuccessful communication with the developers to remedy the issues that had arisen X considered going to litigation. However after consultation with a solicitor he was told that the cost of proceeding with a court case was beyond his means. The developers had taken most of his money - they weren't cheap either!

X is now back at his old job paying off the loan that should have made him much richer. The website is unsalvageable because the developers have the source code. Had a technical project manager been involved for as little as one or two hours a week this situation could so easily have been avoided. Basically this amounts to somone who can liaise with your chosen developers at a technical level who is batting on your side.

Not all developers are as unscrupulous as the company chosen by X. But they do exist. Using a technical project manager is a good way to reduce such technical investment risks.

The Diplomacy of Project Management

Rest assured although we may be monitoring one of our competitors we are simply there to protect you the client. We do not operate a blame culture - we simply focus on getting the job done with your chosen solution provider.

Our Accenture-trained project manager can talk technically to your developers and obtain a better understanding of project status and issues before they become a problem. Any issues that we have we will raise with the developers themselves in a spirit of co-operation. Conflict is of course a project risk so diplomacy is the order of the day.
